Your new favorite band, Greta Van Fleet – They sound a lot like Zeppelin, don’t they? I bet you’d be surprised if I told you that they’re a four-piece made up of the ages of 18-21 years old. This fact alone intrigues me about the band, but how did they come up with such a band name? Being from Frankenmuth, Michigan, there’s a special woman they named their band after.Well, Gretna Van Fleet with an “n” between the “t” and the “a”.
I never really got to meet her prior naming the band after her. We had to come up with the band name a day before one of the shows we were doing, the first big show we would do in the street at the Auto Fest there. Our previous drummer, the original drummer that we had for about a year, had gone to lunch with his grandfather and his grandfather was going to drop him off over here so we could practice here in the garage.
It’s the epicenter of our meanderings. We said “My grandfather said he had to go cut wood for Gretna Van Fleet. I think that could be a cool title.” So we took the “n” out because it would be easier. That’s what we stuck with. We went into town and did the first show and from then on, that was title. A lot of interesting things happened since with the title.
Because she’s right in town, we would play festivals at the Fischer Hall downtown and there would people calling Gretna asking at her house asking if she was playing a show there. She used to be a drummer in a polka band.

Regardless of the chart milestones 'Highway Tune' accomplishes, Greta Van Fleet guitarist Jake Kiszka is simply 'overwhelmed and elated' that the song took off at all.
It 'did have a certain quality from the beginning,' Kiszka tells Billboard. 'The riff that the song starts with, we knew right away that we had something special. Then you have Josh Kiszka, vocals and Danny Wagner, drums coming into the song at same time and with the same amount of power. It's un-ignorable.'
'Highway Tune' is the lead single from Greta Van Fleet's debut EP Black Smoke Rising, which reached the Hard Rock Album Sales chart weeks after its arrival (on the June 3 tally, after its April 21 release). It's risen as high as No. 4, on the Sept. 9-dated ranking (with 2,000 copies sold that frame, according to Nielsen Music).The track also continues climb the all-rock-format Rock Airplay chart, bumping 18-14 on the latest tally with 4 million audience impressions. As the band rides high with the success of its first single, Kiszka tells Billboard that it's currently 'selecting the songs we want to put on our first full-length,' with a release date 'probably sometime in 2018.'
